In the Footsteps of the Celts - Burggarten Appartements

In the Footsteps of the Celts

The fact that they lived on the Palatinate before the Romans is evident. The Celts mined in Eisenberg long before the Romans. The Roman name of Speyer "civitas nemetum" also gives indication of this fact in that it recalls the name of the Celtic tribe "Nemetes".

On one of the highest mountains in the Palatinate, the Donnersberg, was one of the largest Celtic settlements. To this day, you can still find remains of the almost 10 km long, several meters high protective wall. The Celt's building materials were mostly wood and clay, so very few remains are preserved. In the Celtic village in Steinbach, their culture is still kept alive. For example, you can make objects out of felt and clay, shoot handmade arrows, work with clay and copper, or make coins. Baking bread by the campfire is especially fun for the kids.
